Hackable Sex Toys
In today’s world of technology-driven innovations, it’s no surprise that sex toys have also gotten on the bandwagon. Many of today’s remote-controlled vibrators can now be controlled by an app on your phone. This seems like a great way to spice up things in your relationship, right?
Like anything that involves your phone, there’s a possibility that the apps used for remote controlled vibrators can be hacked. That’s right, someone can hack into your phone and control your orgasm and that’s scary. This was proven at the CeBIT conference in Germany when a company called Trend Micro just typed in a few pieces of code and turned the vibrator on. It’s very easy for the private networks on these devices to be hacked due to the lack of security measures that can be found in other software on the Internet. In my personal opinion, if you plan to use a remote controlled vibrator, it’s best to stick to one that doesn’t have a history of being hacked or uses a regular remote instead.
That’s not the only problem that can happen with any sex toys connected to private networks via a Bluetooth connection. Devices such as the We-Vibe 4 Plus can track temperature changes and other data on the device and send it to the parent company (Standard Innovation) to be stored. As the private networks can be hacked as seen at the CeBIT conference and the Def Con hacker conference in New Vegas, there’s no reason why this data cannot be taken in order to find out when someone is using a vibrator so that it can be hacked.
Therefore, someone can hack into a vibrator private server and monitor when they will use the toy to turn it on without consent. If that’s not scary, then I don’t know what is.
What You Can Do to Avoid the Dangers
Let me point this out: just because I told you all of the things that are happening in the sex toy industry doesn’t mean I’m trying to get you to never buy sex toys again. I’m simply trying to make sure you know what dangers are out there for you. With that being said, here are a few things that you can do to make sure you get what you want:
Double Check Your Materials
No matter what you get online, you always want to double check that the material posted is the material you’re going to get. It’s a little hard to do this if you’re shopping online, but a rule of thumb I have is going to a sex shop to see what the toys feel like in my hands before I purchase them.
If you happen to purchase a toy and you’re not sure if you got the right material, put it under a test. For silicone toys, put it under a flame. A silicone toy will blacken, but that can be easily washed off. A non-silicone toy will most likely melt.
Do your research
Before you purchase a toy, it’s always best to do your homework. Check out reviews of the toys you want before purchasing them to see if there are any flaws in them. Amazon reviews can also help you figure out if a toy is counterfeit or not if you plan on buying from there. I don’t necessarily recommend Amazon, but I know it’s the only option for a lot of people.
Buy from Reputable Stores:
To get the best value for your money and to avoid the risk of a counterfeit, you should buy from stores that don’t have a history of counterfeit products. The manufacturer of the toy is usually the safest bet, but there are also third party sex toy stores who buy from reputable warehouses. Either one of these options will get you a longer lasting, more satisfactory toy.
